Earlier today I saw that a plane had just crash-landed on the runway in San Francisco, CA (CNN). It is terrible when something like this occurs. It was lucky that not more people were injured or killed. I was reminded of a TED Talk video I saw a while ago. It is about a man speaking on what matters and life, but how he recalled it all as his plane crashed.
What is the one thing that matters most in your life? We all have the gift of life. Some gifts don’t last as long as others but we all start with a breath. The challenges we face can be very different, but it is important not to squander the little time we are given. It may all seem a little cliche, like something out of a country song, but it is helpful to be reminded of this simple thing. We are all forced to face this truth in tragedies like this. You see it every day on the news, but often we become numb to truths we rather not face.
In the end, when you look back at what mattered most, hopefully it is that you loved and were loved. That will be your final legacy. Do not live with regret, resentment or negativity. Move away from negative people and energy and live your life and cherish your relationships. Do not allow yourself to be misdirected by the pursuit of trivial things. Think about the people you knew who died with grace and peace. They had peace in their heart when they were alive. Embrace life, but pay it forward and practice small or larger gifts of kindness every day.
Every day, “brace for impact”; we never know the instant we will be called. In an instant as this video tells us, everything can change. Time wasted is gone. Things and money can be replaced but the time lost with your child or partner is lost.
